Video modeling application to evaluate self-perception of strategy use 

This project involved the study of a customized application that sequentially presents video clips of a series of typical daily situations that involve strategy usage. The aim of this study was to assess the extent to which the adolescents can recognize daily task challenges and identify strategies that are appropriate to an activity. The system stored their choices for further analysis. 

 

TLDR...  In therapy, when facilitating daily functional performance...guide a self-discovery of strategies, to help clients find what works for them. Doing that may increase the likelihood of transferring the strategies across daily situations

Project description 

Two hundred adolescents participated in this study, all attended a mainstream school. A sample of 25 typical adolescents assisted us in generating solutions depicting their typical way of handling everyday challenges, addressing time management, prospective memory, and task organization. Based on the current taxonomy of functional cognition and feedback from five expert clinicians, all scenarios were then recorded with teenage actors and professionally edited.

Challenges

This  Project had to be culturally adapted. The tone and voice of the scenarios had to fit both teenage girls and teenage boys and to be appropriate to religious and secular users.

 Solutions

We used diverse focused groups who shared their own thoughts and reactions, using their natural speech. Based on the obtained scripts, we created two identical versions, one for girls and one for boys ready to be used for research purposes.
